இவ்வேற்பாடுகளின் பின் 1405 யூலை 11ஆம் திகதி, செங்கேயின் முதலாவது கடற்பயணம், இருபத்தெட்டாயிரம் படைவீரர்களுடன் சுசோவில் ஆரம்பமானது.

அந்த நாள் முதல் இந்த நாள் வரை சிலர் 'கானா'விலிருந்தும், மற்றும் சிலர் 'ஸ்பைஸ்'-முனையிலிருந்தும் புறப்பட்டுக் கடற்பயணம் நடைபெறுகிறது.

1999இல் மாங்கெரேவா தீவுகளிலிருந்து தொன்மைக்கால பாலினீசிய வடிவமைப்பில் கட்டப்பட்ட கட்டுமரங்களில் நடத்தப்பட்ட கடற்பயணம் 19 நாட்களில் ஈஸ்டர் தீவினை சென்றடைந்தது.

கொலம்பஸ் கிறிஸ்துவரல்லாதவர்களைக் கிறிஸ்துவர்களாக்குவதற்காகவே இவ்வாறு கடற்பயணம் செய்வதாகச் சொல்லி வந்தார்.

அமெரிக்காவில், கடற்பயணம் செய்யும் கால்வாய்கள் தொடர்பற்று இருந்த பகுதிகளுடன் இணைந்து அவற்றுக்குப் பின்னிருந்த உலகத்துடன் தொடர்பு ஏற்படுத்தின.

இது ஒரு பன்னாட்டு முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த கடற் பாதை ஆயினும், இங்குள்ள கற்பாறைகளும், சிறு தீவுகளும் கடற்பயணம் மேற்கொள்வோரைப் பெரும் சிரமத்துக்குள்ளாக்கும்.

செங்கேயின் முதலாவது கடற்பயணம் ‘’சீனவரலாற்றிலேயே நீர்ப்பாதையில் நிகழ்ந்த மிகப்பெரிய தேடுதல்வேட்டை’’ என்று வர்ணிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றது.

வரலாற்றுக் காலங்களில் கடற்பயணம் மேற்கொள்பவர்களுக்கு இவை மிகவும் பயனுள்ளதாக இருந்ததால் அவ்வாறு அழைக்கப்பட்டது.

1648இல் செய்மோன் செம்யோன் கொலிமா ஆற்றிலிருந்து ஆர்க்டிக்கில் கடற்பயணம் மேற்கொண்டு அமைதிப் பெருங்கடலில் உள்ள அனாடைர் ஆற்றை வந்தடைந்தார்.

கடாரத்து இளவரசன் ஒருவன் தான் முடியைப் பெற்றுக் கொள்ள உதவி கேட்டு வீரராஜேந்திர சோழனை அணுகியதற்கு உதவும் முகமாக கடற்பயணம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது என்று மூல ஆவணங்கள் உறுதிப்படுத்துகின்றன.
