ஒரு பௌத்தத் துறவியினால் இப்பெயரைப் பெற்றதாக 16 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்த சீன இலக்கியம் கூறுகிறது.

கூட்டினைச் சுமந்து கொண்டு இவை தனியாக வாழ்வதால் துறவி நண்டு எனும் பெயர் பெற்றதாய்க் கருதப்படுகிறது.

சிஷ்தி மரபில் வந்த சூஃபி துறவி ஹஜ்ரத் நிஜாமுதீன் அவுலியா உத்திரப்பிரதேசம் மாநிலம் பதாயூனில் பிறந்தவர்.
