குழம்பு என்ற சொல், பொதுவாக அரை திரவ நிலையில் (கூழ்ம நிலை) உள்ள பொருளைக் குறிக்கிறது.

இதன் மைய பகுதிக்கு அருகாமையில் திரவ நிலையிலும், விளிம்பு புறங்களில் கூழ்ம நிலையிலும் இது அமைந்துள்ளது.

இது மென்மையாகவோ கடினமாகவோ (அ) திடக் கூழ்ம நிலையில் இருக்கும்.

இது கூழ்ம நிலையில் உள்ள திரவத்தின் அழுத்தத்தை அதிகரித்து ஓரிடத்தில் இருந்து வேறு ஒரு இடத்துக்கு கடத்த உதவி புரிகிறது.

கடற்பாசியை கழுவி சுத்தம் செய்து குளிர்சாதனப் பெட்டியில் வைத்து கூழ்ம நிலைக்குக் கொண்டுவரவும்.

தமிழ் அகராதியியல் டின்டால் விளைவு (Tyndall effect) என்பது கூழ்ம நிலையிலுள்ள பொருட்களின் வழியாகப் பாயும் ஒளிக்கதிர்களை அவற்றிலுள்ள கூழ்மத்துகள்கள் (colloidal particles) சிதறடிப்பதைக் குறிப்பதாகும்.

பாலின் இயற்பியற் பண்பு நிலை அதன் அடர்த்தி மற்றும் எடையைப் பொருத்து திரவ கூழ்ம நிலை ஆகும்.
