1843 ஆம் ஆண்டில் கார்ல் குச்ட்டாவ் மோசாண்டர் (Carl Gustaf Mosander) என்பவர் கடோலினைட்டு என்னும் கனிமத்தில் இருந்து இயிற்றியா ("yttria") என்னும் எர்பிய ஆக்ஸைடுப் பொருளை பிரித்தெடுத்தார்.

மோசாண்டர் கடோலினைட்டில் இருந்து மூன்று பிரிவுப்பொருட்கலை எடுத்தார்: அவை இயிற்றியா, எர்பியா, டெர்பியா என்பன ஆகும்.

1886ல் பிரான்ஸ் நாட்டு வேதியியலாளர் பால் எமீல் லெக்கொக் டி புவாபௌட்ரான் (Paul Émile Lecoq de Boisbaudran) என்பவர் கடோலினிய ஆக்ஸைடாகிய கடோலினியாவை (கடோலினியம் (III) ஆக்ஸைடை) மோசாண்டரின் இயிற்றியா (Mosander's yttria) (இயிற்றியா 2O3) என்பதில் இருந்து பிரித்தெடுத்தார்.
