இயல்பாக அரை மாத்திரை ஒலியளவுபெறும் ஆய்த எழுத்து, ஓசை குறைந்து கால் மாத்திரையாக ஒலிக்கும்பொழுது, "ஆய்தக்குறுக்கம்" என்ற சார்பெழுத்து ஆகிறது.

இந்தியாவின் மெட்ரோ நகரங்கள் தொலைவுக் குறுக்கம் (Foreshortening) என்பது தொலைவில் உள்ள பொருள் அல்லது நீள அளவு, ஒரு ஒளியியல் மாயத் தோற்றத்தினால், அண்மையிலுள்ள அதே அளவுள்ள பொருள் அல்லது நீளத்திலும் சிறிதாகத் தெரியும் ஒரு தோற்றப்பாடு (Phenomenon) ஆகும்.
