மிகிந்தலையை சூழவுள்ள வனாந்தரப்பகுதி மிகிந்தலை சரணாலயப்பகுதிக்குச் சொந்தமானதாகும்.

இதன் மூலம் அவர் மரியாளுக்கு தினசரி தேவதூதர்கள் வனாந்தரத்தில் உணவளித்தனர் என்ற மேற்கத்திய புராணங்களை புறக்கணித்தார்.

இந்தியத் திரைப்பட ஒளிப்பதிவாளர்கள் கலகாரிப் பாலைவனம் (Kalahari Desert) (ஆஃப்ரிகான்ஸ்: Kalahari-woestyn) எனும் இது, தென்னாப்பிரிக்கா பிராந்தியத்தில் வியாபித்திருக்கும் வறண்ட வனாந்தரப் புன்னிலமாகும்.

வனாந்தரத்திலே ஒரு மேய்ப்பனாக இருப்பதாக மோசே விவரிக்கப்படுகிறார்.

"தங்கனீக்கா" என்ற பெயர் சுவாகிலி மொழிச் சொற்கலான தங்க (கடற் பயணம்) மற்றும் நிக்கா ("மக்களற்ற வெற்று", "வனப்பகுதி") என்ற சொற்களில் இருந்து உருவானது, இது "வனாந்தரத்தில் புறப்பட்டது" என்ற சொற்றொடரை உருவாக்கியது.

வனாந்தரத்தில் நீர்ப்போக்கை தவிர்க்கவும் உடல் ஒழுங்காகச் செயல்படவும் பொதுவாக நான்கு முதல் ஆறு லிட்டர் தண்ணீர் அல்லது பிற திரவங்கள் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் தேவைப்படுகிறது.

In the savannas are gigantic baobab trees.

On the east, the main cordillera abuts upon the region of plateaus and savannas, which occupies nearly half of the area of Nicaragua.

The open savannas are the home of large ungulates, especially antelopes, the giraffe (peculiar to Africa), zebra, buffalo, wild ass and four species of rhinoceros; and of carnivores, such as the lion, leopard, hyaena, 'c.

Grasses also characterize steppes and savannas, where they form scattered tufts.

The wooded savannas are mostly situated on the higher lands of the central zone, where the land dips down from the Mitumba Mountains to the Congo.

In the savannas the most characteristic trees are the monkey bread tree or baobab (Adansonia digitata), doom palm (Hyphaene) and euphorbias.

Panicum, a very polymorphic genus, and one of the largest in the order, is widely spread in all warm countries; together with species of Paspalum they form good forage grasses in the South American savannas and campos.

The rainfall, which also has an important bearing upor the culture of peoples, will be found on the whole to be greatest in the third zone and also in the eastern highlands, and of course least in the desert, the steppes and savannas standing midway between the two.

The elephant (though its range has become restricted through the attacks of hunters) is found both in the savannas and forest regions, the latter being otherwise poor in large game, though the special habitat of the chimpanzee and gorilla.

While the coast lands are either densely forested or covered with savannas or park-like country, the Futa Jallon tableland is mainly covered with short herbage.
