நைட்ரஜன் மண்ணில் தயாராக கிடைக்கக்கூடியதல்ல, ஏனென்றால் நைட்ரஜனின் வாயு வடிவமான N2 மிகவும் நிலையானது என்பதுடன் உயரமான தாவரங்களுக்கு கிடைக்காதவை.

2006 ஆம் ஆண்டின்படி, பிரிட்டன் மற்றும் யுனைடெட் ஸ்டேட்ஸில் நைட்ரஜன் உரங்கள் பயன்பாடு மிக அதிகரித்த நிலையில் கட்டுப்டுத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
