ஆரம்பத்தில், இளம் லார்வா ஒன்றாக உணவு, மற்றும் இந்த நிலை அவர்களின் மிகவும் அழிவு நிலை உள்ளது.

முதிர்ச்சி மூலம், பழைய லார்வாக்கள் ஆக்கிரமிப்பு மற்றும் நரம்பு மண்டலமாக மாறி, feed feeding site ஒன்றுக்கு ஒன்று அல்லது இரண்டு லார்வாக்களை விட்டு (Interfamilial Predation) பார்க்கவும்.

இந்தச் செடியால் பிடிக்கப்படும் பூச்சிகளில் கொசுவின் லார்வா, நீர்த்தெள்ளு ஆகியவை சிலவாகும்.

ஒவ்வொரு முட்டையும், 'நாப்பிளியஸ்' என்னும் 'லார்வா'வாகவும், அதன் பிறகு, 'சைப்பிரிஸ்' என்னும் 'லார்வா'வாகவும் முதிரும் வளரியல்பு கொண்டு விளங்குகிறது.

சில நேரங்களில் பெரிய மீன்களின் லார்வாக்களுக்கு மறைவிடங்களாக உள்ளன.

லார்வா கட்டத்தில் பாலிஃபாகோஸ் (பல தாவரங்களில் ஊட்டங்கள்) என்பதால் இனங்கள் பல பொதுவான பெயர்களைக் கொடுக்கின்றன, அவை பருத்தி புல்வெர்ம் மற்றும் தக்காளி பழம் போன்றவை.

இதைத் தேனுடன் கலந்து லார்வாக்களுக்கு கொடுக்கின்றன.

ஆழ்கடல் பகுதிகளில் இந்த இரண்டாம் கட்ட லார்வாக்கள் கடல்புற்களை உண்டு சில நாட்கள் கழித்து மைசஸ்களாக (myses) உருமாற்றம் காண்கின்றன.

கரிம நீர்க்குழாயில் உள்ள பாக்டீரியாவையும்  லார்வாக்களை உணவாகி கொள்கின்றன.

மிக முக்கியமாக இந்த பி டி நச்சு நுண்ணுயிரிகள் விட்டில் பூச்சி, வண்ணத்துப் பூச்சி, வண்டுகள், இருசிறகிப் பூச்சிகள், போன்றவற்றின் குடம்பிகளின் (லார்வா) உயிருக்கு அச்சுருத்தலானவை.

இவ்வகைப் பூச்சிகள் தங்களின் உணவைத்தேடிச் செல்லும்போது லார்வாக்கள் பெரும்பாலும் ராணுவ அணிவகுப்பு போன்று செல்வதால் இப்பூச்சியை படைப்புழு எனப் பொதுவாக அழைக்கின்றனர்.

நீரில் நீந்திச் செல்லும் சிறு பூச்சிகள் மற்றும் லார்வா இந்த மயிர்களின்மேல் பட நேர்ந்தால் இலையின் இரு பகுதிகளும் உடனே மூடிக்கொள்ளும்.

ஒருமுறை ஒரு நபரின் உடலுக்குள் சென்று விட்டால் லார்வா க்களை உருவாக்குகிறது.
