சரிவகம், அடிக்கண்டம் போன்ற சில வடிவங்களில் இணையான இரு அடிப்பகுதிகள் இருக்கும்.

ஒரு தளத்தைக் கொண்டு கூம்பினை அதன் உச்சியுடன் வெட்டக் கிடைக்கும் பகுதி "துண்டிப்புக் கூம்பு" (truncated cone) என்றும், வெட்டும் தளம் கூம்பின் அடிப்பக்கத்திற்கு இணையாக இருக்கும்போது அந்த துண்டிப்புக் கூம்பானது "அடிக்கண்டம்" (frustum) என்றும் அழைக்கப்படும்.

பட்டைக்கூம்பின் அடிக்கு இணையான ஒரு தளத்தினால் அதன் மேற்பகுதியை வெட்டி எடுத்தால் மிஞ்சும் பகுதி அடிக்கண்டம் என அழைக்கப்படுகின்றது.
