ஏடீசு இனத்தில் இரண்டுவகையானவை, ஏடீசு எகிப்தி என்னும் இனமும், ஏடீசு அல்போபிக்டசு என்னும் இனமும் தெங்குக் காய்ச்சல், மஞ்சக்காய்ச்சல், மேற்கு நைல் காய்ச்சல், சிக்குன்குனியா, குதிரைக்கு ஏற்படும் மண்டைநோய் முதலியவற்றை உண்டாக்குகின்றன.

இருகூர்ப் பெருந்தமனி அடைப்பிதழ் எனப்படும் பிறப்பு நிலைக் கோளாறான மூன்று இதழ்களுக்குப் (முக்கூர்) பதிலாக இரண்டு இதழ்கள் (இருகூர்) காணப்படல், வாதக் குறுங்காய்ச்சல் ஆகியன வேறு காரணிகளாக உள்ளன.

இளம் வயதினருக்கு, இந்த நோய் பெரும்பாலும் காய்ச்சல், தொண்டைப் புண், கழுத்தில்நிணநீர்ச் சுரப்பி விரிவடைதல், சோர்வு போன்றவற்றை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது .

காய்ச்சல் (குறிப்பாக தொற்றுநோய்களின் போது, காட்டாக வாதக் காய்ச்சல்).

மூளையுறை அழற்சியின் பொதுவான அறிகுறிகளாக தலைவலி, கழுத்து விறைப்பு ஆகியவற்றுடன் கூடிய காய்ச்சல், மனக்கலக்கம் அல்லது சுய நினைவு மாறுபடுதல், வாந்தி, வெளிச்சம், ஒலியைச் சகிக்கும் தன்மைக் குறைவு [ஒளியச்சம் (photophobia), ஒலியச்சம் (phonophobia)] ஆகியவற்றைக் கூறலாம்.

இளம்பேற்றுக் குளிர்காய்ச்சல் என்பது ஒரு கருவுற்றநிலைக் கோளாறு ஆகும்.

வெகு அரிதாக ஆனால் சிறார்களில் பொதுவாக, இக் காய்ச்சல் 2 – 5 நாட்களுக்கு நீடித்து, பின்னர் ஓரிரு நாட்களுக்கு இராது, மீண்டும் காய்ச்சல் ஓரிரு நாட்களுக்குத் தோன்றும், பின்னர் அறவே நிற்கும்.

நோய் கட்டுபாட்டு மையங்களின் படி, குடற்காய்ச்சலால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களில் 5% மக்கள் உடல் சரியான பிறகும் குடற்காய்ச்சல் நோயை பரப்பக் கூடியவராக இருக்கின்றனர் என்பதாகும்.

லெப்டோஸ்பிரோசிஸ் காய்ச்சல் போன்ற அறிகுறிகள் (காய்ச்சல், சில்லிடு பொருள், தசைவலிகள், ஆழ்ந்த தலைவலி) உடன் ஆரம்பமாகும் பைபாசிக் நோயாக இருக்கிறது.

இங்கிலாந்தில் வியர்வைக் காய்ச்சல் கொள்ளைநோய் முற்றாக நீங்கியது.

அதன் பிறகு கருணாநிதி உடல்நலத்தில் வயது காரணமாக நலிவு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது என்றும் சிறுநீரக பாதையில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள தொற்றின் காரணமாகக் காய்ச்சல் ஏற்பட்டிருப்பதாகத் தனியார் மருத்துவமனை அறிக்கை ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டது.
