துரியோதனின் சூதாட்ட மண்டபத்தில், தருமன் சூதாட்டத்தில் தன் தம்பியர்களையும் தன்னையும் மற்றும் திரௌபதியையும் இழந்து நிற்கையில், திரௌபதியின் துயிலை துச்சாதனன் நீக்கும் போது, கிருஷ்ணனை சரணாகதி அடைந்த திரௌபதியின் மானத்தை காத்தவர் கிருஷ்ணன்.

இந்திரா காந்தி ஆட்சி சரணாகதி (Saranagati - surrender) என்பது இந்து சமயத்தின் வைணவ அடியார்கள், எவ்வித பலன் கருதாமல், தங்களை உடல் அளவிலும், ஆன்ம அளவிலும் முழுவதுமாக, பரம்பொருளான திருமாலிடத்தில் ஒப்புவிக்கும் ஒரு வகையான பக்தியாகும்.

1750 ஆம் ஆண்டில் ராஜா மார்த்தாண்ட வர்மா தனது அரசை இக்கோயிலின் இறைவனான பத்மநாபசாமிக்குத் தன் ராஜ்யம், செல்வம் அனைத்தையும் தானமாக ஸ்ரீ அனந்த பத்மநாபருக்கு பட்டயம் எழுதித் தந்து, தன் உடை வாளையும் அவர் திருப்பாதங்களில் வைத்து எடுத்துக் கொண்டு பரிபூரண சரணாகதியடைந்தார்.
