हस्तकला उन यांत्रिक युक्तियों को औजारों को मशीनी औजार (machine tool) कहते हैं जो शक्तिचालित होतीं हैं तथा जिनका उपयोग प्राय: मशीनिंग क्रिया द्वारा मशीनों के धातु के कल-पुर्जों के निर्माण में होता है।

मशीनिंग क्रिया में वांछित स्थान की धातु को हटाया जाता है।

इसमें उपकरणों की रचना जैसे कैड (CAD) कार्य; एकीकृत या पृथक कैम (CAM) कम्प्यूटर-समर्थित उत्पादन सॉफ्टवेयर का प्रयोग करके उत्पाद के पुर्ज़ों के लिये सीएनसी (CNC) मशीनिंग निर्देशों तथा साथ ही उन पुर्ज़ों के उत्पादन के लिये उपकरणों के निर्माण जैसे कार्य शामिल होते हैं।

मशीनिंग के लिए पूरी सूचना 'प्रक्रम इंजीनियर' द्वारा तैयार की जाती है ताकि मशीन की सभी गतियाँ पूर्व निर्धारित रहें मशीन परिचर (attendant) पर आश्रित न हो।
