ਜਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਲੰਬੀ-ਦੂਰੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੌਰਟਵੇਵ ਉੱਚ ਫ੍ਰੀਕੁਐਂਸੀ ਰੇਡੀਓ ਸੰਚਾਰ- 3 ਅਤੇ 30 MHz (ਮੈਗਾ-ਹ੍ਰਟਜ਼) ਦਰਮਿਆਨ- ਸਕਾਈਵੇਵ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਹੈ।

1907 ਵਿੱਚ, ਮਾਰਕੋਨੀ ਨੇ ਕਲਿਫਡਨ, ਆਇਰਲੈਂਡ ਅਤੇ ਗਲੇਸ ਬੇ, ਨਿਊ ਫਾਊਂਡਲੈਂਡ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ, ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਟਰਾਂਟੋਐਟਲਾਂਟਿਕ ਰੇਡੀਓ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਲੰਬੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੇਡੀਓ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਟੈਲੀ-ਕਮਿਨੀਊਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਆਇਨੋਸਫੀਅਰ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
