ಸುಳಿವು ಗೊತ್ತಾಗದಂತೆ ಬಚ್ಚಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಕಂದಕ, ಸುರಂಗಗಳ ರಚನೆ, ಭೂಮಿಯ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಸ್ವರೂಪಗಳನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಣೆಕೊಡಲು ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು, ನರಿಯ ಬಿಲದಂಥ ಹಳ್ಳಗಳನ್ನು ತೋಡಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯು ಬಂದೂಕಿನೊಡನೆ ಅವಿತುಕೊಂಡು ಎಲೆಗಳಿಂದ ಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು, ಸಿಡಿಮದ್ದು ತುಂಬಿದ ಸುರಂಗ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ, ಮುಳ್ಳು ಕೊಕ್ಕೆಗಳ ತಂತಿ ಆವರಣ, ಮೆಷಿನ್‍ಗನ್ ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳು, ಕಾಂಕ್ರೀಟ್ ಪಿಲ್‍ಬಾಕ್ಸ್‍ಗಳು ಮುಂತಾದ ಸಾಧನಗಳಿಂದ ನಡೆಯಿತು.

ಗುಂಡಾದ ಈ ಕೋಟೆಯ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಆಳವೂ ಅಗಲವೂ ಆದ ಕಂದಕವಿದ್ದು ಗೋಡೆಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಬುರುಜಗಳಿದ್ದ ಗುರುತುಗಳಿವೆ.

ಆ ಅಡಗುದಾಣಗಳಿಗೆ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕಂದಕಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
