ಹಲವರು ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯರಾಗುವಂತೆ ಗಿಗ್ಸ್ 30ಮೇ 2007ರಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ನಿವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಘೋಷಿಸಿದ,ದಿ ವೇಲ್ ಗ್ಲಾಮೊರ್ಗಾನ್ ಹೊಟೆಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ವಿಷಯ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ ಆತ ತನ್ನ 16 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಫೂಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ವೃತ್ತಿಗೆ ತೆರೆ ಎಳೆದ.
