ಈ ಮೊಸಳೆಗೆ ಮೊದಲು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಮೊಸಳೆ ಕೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದುದಾಗಿ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಮೊದಲ ನಿಜ ಮೊಸಳೆ ವಿಕಾಸವಾಗಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಗಾತ್ರದ ಉಭಯವಾಸಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳಿವಿನ ಅಂಚಿಗೆ ತಳ್ಳಿತು.

ಕ್ರೊಕೊಡೈಲಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊಸಳೆಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ.

ಎಷ್ಟು ಮೊಸಳೆಗಳಿವೆ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ 'ಒಂದೇ ಇರುವುದು'ಎಂದೆವು.

ಮೊಸಳೆಗಳು ಹಿಂದ್ ಅಡಿ ಕಾಲ್ಬೆರಳುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತಮ ಕಾರಣ ವಿಶೇಷ ಉಪ್ಪು ಗ್ರಂಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಮುದ್ರವಾಸಿ ಸಹಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಲ್ಲವು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಆದರೆ ಇವು ಉಪ್ಪು, ಶೋಧಿಸಿ ಹೊರಹಾಕುವ ಅಲಿಗೇಟರ್ಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲದ ಕೆಲಸ.

ಮೆಕಾಂಗ್‌ ನದೀ ಮುಖಜ ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (1980ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಿಂದ ಅವು ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾದವು) ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ನದಿ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮುದ್ರವಾಸಿ ಮೊಸಳೆಗಳು ಹಿಂದೊಮ್ಮೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿದ್ದವಾದರೂ, ಇಂಡೋಚೈನಾದಲ್ಲಿನ ಈ ಜಾತಿಯ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವು ಈಗ ಕರಾಳವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಮೊಸಳೆಯ ಜಠರದ ಒಳಭಾಗ ಬಲವಾದ ಮಾಂಸಖಂಡಗಳಿಂದ ರಚನೆಗೊಂಡಿವೆ.

ಉಳಿದ ಮೊಸಳೆಗಳಂತೆ ಕಾಲಿನ ಪಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲ್ಲೊಡೆದ ಅಂಚು ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಜಲಪಾದ ಕಾಲು ಬೆರಳುಗಳ ತುದಿಯವರೆಗೂ ಆವರಿಸಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿಗಳು, ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಹಾವು ಹಾಗು ಮೊಸಳೆಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಿವು ಮೂಡಿಸಿ ಅವುಗಳ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
