आजकल जबकि समाज-विज्ञान, मनोविज्ञान आदि शास्त्रीय विषयों के लिए जहाँ विज्ञान शब्द का प्रयोग करने की परम्परा चल पड़ी है तब शुद्ध कारण-कार्य परम्परा पर आधारित भाषा-विज्ञान को विज्ञान कहना किसी भी दृष्टि से अनुचित नहीं ठहराया जा सकता।
