अतएव यह कहा जा सकता है कि दार्शनिक, वैज्ञानिक आदि अन्य दृष्टिकोणों की तरह ऐतिहासिक दृष्टिकोण की अपनी निजी विशेषता है।

अमेरिकी दार्शनिक विलियम जेम्स (William James) ने १८९० में अपनी मौलिक पुस्तक मनोविज्ञान के सिद्धांत (Principles of Psychology) में कई ऐसे प्रश्नों की नीव रखी जिन पर आने वाले कई वर्षों में मनो वैज्ञानिकों (psychologist) ने अपना ध्यान केन्द्रित किया।

इन नामों से यह तो अत्यन्त स्पष्ट है कि अर्थशास्त्र नीतिशास्त्र के प्रति अनेक महान विचारकों तथा दार्शनिकों का ध्यान गया और इस विषय पर एक उज्ज्वल साहित्य का निर्माण हुआ।
