ऐसे मनोवज्ञानिक का प्रमुख कार्य रोगों का पता लगाना और निदानात्मक तथा विभिन्न उपचारात्मक तकनीकों का इस्तेमाल करना है।

किन्तु देवताओं की प्रेरणा से सिद्धार्थ को उद्यानयात्रा में व्याधि, जरा, मरण और परिव्राजक के दर्शन हुए और उनके चित्त में प्रव्राज्या का संकल्प विरूढ़ हुआ।

पत्ते बिच्छू के काटने में तथा इनका धुआँ गले की कुछ व्याधियों तथा हिचकी में लाभदायक है।

आधुनिक चिकित्सा पद्धति एक महत्वपूर्ण पड़ाव जब आया जब रोबर्ट कोक द्वारा-व्याधियों की ज़र्म थ्योरी ( कीटाणु सिद्धांत ) - दिया गया ।

इन प्रासादों में सिद्धार्थ को व्याधि और जरा-मरण से दूर एक कृत्रिम, नित्य मनोरम लोक में रखा गया जहाँ संगीत, यौवन और सौन्दर्य का अक्षत साम्राज्य था।

ये सभी प्रकार की व्याधियों को हरने वाला है, इसे मृत्यु लोक का कुल्पवृक्ष कहा जाता है।

लेकिन आयुर्वेद मात्र रोग की चिकित्सा तक सीमित नहीं है यह एक विशिष्ट जीवन दर्शन को स्थापित करता है।

संगीत से आध्यात्म तथा मोक्ष की प्रप्ति के साथ भारतीय संगीत के प्राण भूत तत्व रागों के द्वारा मनः शांति, योग ध्यान, मानसिक रोगों की चिकित्सा आदि विशेष लाभ प्राप्त होते है।

यही नहीं मानव के अनेक रोगों का उपचार भी संगीत की तरंगों से सम्‍भव है।

मस्तिष्क से सम्बंधित सभी व्याधिओं को मिटाने के लिये भी यह लाभदायक है।

लेकिन गम्भीर सांस के रोग इससे सही नहीं हो पाते हैं।

कच्चा फल कसैला, खट्टा, वात पित्त को उत्पन्न करनेवाला, आँतों को सिकोड़नेवाला, गले की व्याधियों को दूर करनेवाला तथा अतिसार, मूत्रव्याधि और योनिरोग में लाभदायक बताया गया है।
