बीसवीं शताब्दी के छठे और सातवें दशक में बुर्जुआ दार्शनिकों के बीच यथार्थ के प्रति विज्ञानसम्मत दृष्टिकोण और विचारधारा के बेमेल होने संबंधी विचार व्यापक रूप से प्रचलित हुए।

नाटक "शत्रु" (1906) और "मां" उपन्यास में (1906) गोर्की ने बुर्जुआ लोगों और मजदूरों के संघर्ष का वर्णन किया है।

गोर्की ने अनेक नाटक भी लिखे, जैसे "सूर्य के बच्चे" (1905), "बर्बर" (1905), "तलछट" (1902) आदि, जो बुर्जुआ विचारधारा के विरुद्ध थे।

वस्तुतः 19वीं सदी तो बुर्जुआ युग के नाम जानी जाती है।
