भारत के पहले मज़दूर संगठन कपड़ा कामगार संघ के महिला प्रकोष्ठ के नेतृत्व से 1968 में अपने सार्वजनिक जीवन की शुरुआत करने वाली इला भट्ट ने अनौपचारिक क्षेत्र में श्रम करने वाली ग़रीब स्त्रियों को सम्पूर्ण रोज़गार दिलाने स्वयंसेवी का के किये गये संस्थानीकरण की कोशिशों में अनूठा स्थान है।
