वी. पी. सिंह ने चुनाव की तिथि घोषित होने के बाद जनसभाओं में दावा किया कि बोफोर्स तोपों की दलाली की रक़म 'लोटस' नामक विदेशी बैंक में जमा कराई है और वह सत्ता में आने के बाद पूरे प्रकरण का ख़ुलासा कर देंगे।
