बाओबाब के पेड़ पर पहली बार फूल पेड़ की आयु के 20वें वर्ष में अप्रैल से मई के बीच लगते है।

बाओबाब के कुछ वृक्षों की आयु ६००० वर्ष तक पाई गयी गई है।

इसे आम तौर पर गोरक्षी (हिन्दी नाम) या बाओबाब के नाम से जाना जाता है।

अरबी में इसे 'बु-हिबाब' कहा जाता है जिसका अर्थ है 'कई बीजों वाला पेड़', शायद इसी बु-हिबाब शब्द का अपभ्रंश रूप है बाओबाब।
