सौभाग्य से इनमें केवल ई. पूर्व तृतीय शती की प्राकृत भाषा का स्वरूप सुरक्षित है, किंतु उन प्रशस्तियों में तत्कालीन भाषा के प्रादेशिक भेद भी हमें प्राप्त होते हैं।

रासो की भांति कीर्तिलता में भी गाथा छन्द का व्यवहार प्राकृत भाषा में हुआा है।

इसी के फलस्वरूप प्राकृत भाषा की प्रवृत्तियों का विकास हुआ।
