இந்தப் பறவை ஒரு பேரலகின் மேல் மற்றொரு பேரலகைத் தலைகீழாகக் கவிழ்த்து ஒட்டினாற் போல் இருப்பதால்தான் தமிழில் இருவாய்க் குருவி என்ற விந்தைப் பெயரால் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
