ஒரு காலத்தில் உலகச் சந்தைக்கான முக்கிய மீன் வகையாக இருந்த இது, இன்று ஏறக்குறைய சீன உள்ளூர் சந்தைக்கு மட்டுமே சேவை செய்து வருகிறது.

வங்கியியல் பிளாட்டி மீன் (Platy (fish)) இவை நன்னீரில் வாழும் மீன் வகையாகும்.

பிரபலமான மீன் வகைகளில் வங்கவராசி எனப்படும் பாம்பே வாத்து மீன், பிராமைடீ, அகலை, கானாங்கெளுத்தி ஆகியவை அடங்கும்.

1950 களின் நடுப்பகுதியில் வணிகரீதியான மீன்பிடி தொழில் இப்பகுதியில் தொடங்கியது இதனால் கடலின் மீன் வகைகளில் மிக அதிக தாக்கத்தை உள்ளூர் மீன்பிடித் தொழில் ஏற்படுத்தியது; 1995 ஆம் ஆண்டில் இந்த ஏரியிலிருந்து பிடிக்கப்பட்ட மீன்களின் மொத்த எடையானது 180,000 டன்களாக இருந்தது.

இது நமது சூரியனை ஒத்ததும், மஞ்சள் குறு விண்மீன் (விண்மீன் வகைப்பாடு G0'nbsp;V) வகையைச் சேர்ந்ததும் ஆகும்.
