அவளைப்போல் தானும் சிவப்பாக இருந்தால் தன்னைக் காதலிப்பாள் என்று கருதி, கருங்குருவியின் சாம்பலைப் பூசினால் தான் சிகப்பாகவும், வசீகரமாகவும் மாறிவிடலாம் என தொன்மக் கதையில் சொல்லப்பட்டது போல் கருங்குருவியை தினமும் மரத்துக்கு மரம் தேடி அலைகிறான்.

கருங்குருவியையும், ஷாலுவையும் தன் நண்பனோடு பின்தொடர்கிறான்.

இந்த ஆலயத்தில் உள்ள லிங்கம் சுயம்பு லிங்கம் இங்கு தான் சிவன் கருங்குருவிற்க மோட்சம் தந்த இடம் என்று இங்குள்ள பெரியவர்கள் கூறுகிறார்கள்.

கருங்குருவிக்கு உபதேசம், நாரைக்கு முக்தி அளித்தல், மாணிக்கம் விற்ற லீலை, சிவ பக்தரான தருமிக்கு அருளுதல் போன்றவை விழாவின் பிற முக்கிய நிகழ்வுகளாகும்.

கருங்குருவி, சீகாரம், சுவாலோ ஆகியவை குளம் குட்டைகளிலுள்ள சேற்றைச் சிறு உருண்டையாக்கிப் பின் கிண்ணம் அல்லது குடம் போன்ற வடிவில் கூடுகட்டும் .

பறவைகளில் கருங்குருவி மற்றும் சில பறவைகளும் தேனீக்களைப் பிடித்து உண்ணக்கூடியவை.

மதுரை மீனாட்சியம்மன் கோயிலில் ஆவணி மூலத் திருவிழாவில் கருங்குருவிக்கு உபதேசம் செய்த திருவிளையாடல் நிகழ்ச்சி ஆண்டு தோறும் நடைபெறுகிறது.
