ಕಾಮಾಲೆಯ ರೋಗಾಣು ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಕಾಮಾಲೆಯ ಸೊಳ್ಳೆಯಾದ ಏಡಿಸ್ ಎಜಿಪ್ಟೈ ಯಿನ ಕಡಿತದಿಂದ ಹರಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ "ಟೈಗರ್ ಸೊಳ್ಳೆ" (ಏಡಿಸ್ ಆಬೋಪಿಕ್ಟಸ್ ) ಅಂಥಹ ಇತರ ಸೊಳ್ಳೆಗಳು ಕೂಡ ಈ ರೋಗಾಣುವಿಗೆ ಸದಿಶವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯವಹಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.

1898ರಿಂದ 1902ರ ವರೆಗೆ ಹವಾನ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಹ್ಯ ಪರಿಸರ ನಿರ್ಮಲೀಕರಣ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ ಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಸೊಳ್ಳೆಗಳು ಹಳದಿಜ್ವರವನ್ನು ಒಬ್ಬನಿಂದ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನಿಗೆ ಹರಡುವ ವಿಧಾನದ ವಿಚಾರವಾಗಿ ಅನೇಕ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅಧ್ಯಯನಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಡೆಸಿದ.

ಈಡೀಸ್ ಈಜಿಪ್ಟಿ ಸೊಳ್ಳೆಗಳು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ, ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಕುಡಿಯುವ ನೀರಿನ ಸರಬರಾಜಿನ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳ ನೀರಿನ ತೊಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಅಥವಾ ಗೃಹಬಳಕೆಯ ನಿರುಪಯುಕ್ತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ; ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಟೈರುಗಳು, ಕ್ಯಾನುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಬಾಟಲಿಗಳು.

ಏಡಿಗಳು, ಚೇಳುಗಳು, ಜೇಡಗಳು, ನೊಣಗಳು, ಸೊಳ್ಳೆಗಳು, ಜರಿಗಳು ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿವೆ.

ಕಡಿತವು ಕಾಯಿಲೆ/ಸೆಪ್ಟಿಸೇಮಿಯಾಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗುವಂತಹವು , ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ: ಸೊಳ್ಳೆಗಳು, ಚಿಗಟಗಳು, ಉಣ್ಣಿ ಹುಳುಗಳು, ರೇಬಿಸ್‌ ಸೋಂಕು ತಗುಲಿದ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳು, ಸ್ಯಾಂಡ್ ಫ್ಲೈಸ್, ಕೊಮೊಡೋ ಡ್ರಾಗನ್‌ಗಳು, ಮೊಸಳೆಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರವುಗಳು.

ಹೂವಿನ ಕುಂಡ, ಬೀಸಾಕಿದ ಟೈರ್‌, ಹಳೆಯ ಎಣ್ಣೆಯ ಡ್ರಮ್‌, ನೀರು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುವ ತೊಟ್ಟಿ ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೊಳ್ಳೆಗಳು ಉತ್ಪತ್ತಿಯಾಗುತ್ತವೆ.
