" अधिकांश भारतीय विचारों में जोर निराशक्ति पर ही दिया गया है, जिससे आनंद की माप क्षणस्थायी एवं सुख कुछ नि:सार प्रतीत होता है।

क्योंकि सब कुछ अनित्य और अनात्मं (बिना आत्मा के) होता है, कुछ भी सच में विद्यमान नहीं है।

सुषुप्ति अवस्था अनित्य है अत: इससे परे तुरीयावस्था को जीव का शुद्ध रूप माना जाता है।

इनमें से प्रथम चार द्रव्यों के नित्य और अनित्य, दो भेद हैं।

उनके आठ उपन्यास- उसके हिस्से की धूप, वंशज, चित्तकोबरा, अनित्य, 'मैं और मैं', कठगुलाब, 'मिलजुल मन' और 'वसु का कुटुम'।

बुद्ध ने योग के निपुण की मौत पर मुक्ति पाने की पुराने ब्रह्मिनिक अन्योक्त ("उत्तेजनाहीन होना, क्षणस्थायी होना") को एक नया अर्थ दिया; उन्हें, ऋषि जो जीवन में मुक्त है के नाम से उल्लेख किया गया था।

स्याद्वाद का अर्थ है अनेकांतवाद अर्थात् एक ही पदार्थ में नित्यत्व और अनित्यत्व, सादृश्य और विरुपत्व, सत्व और असत्व, अभिलाष्यत्व और अनभिलाष्यत्व आदि परस्पर भिन्न धर्मों का सापेक्ष स्वीकार।

इस मत के अनुसार आकाश से लेकर दीपक पर्यंत समस्त पदार्थ नित्यत्व और अनित्यत्व आदि उभय धर्म युक्त है।

संसार की अनित्यता को देखकर उनके मन में वैराग्य का उदय हुआ।

बेनावेन्ते के पात्र प्रायः क्षणस्थायी होते हैं और वह लेखकीय उद्देश्य की पूर्ति करने के बाद सहसा लुप्त हो जाते हैं।
