इसी कारण बाजार का केंद्र अभी भी घंटाघर के नाम से जाना जाता है।

18वीं सदी में निर्मित धरहरा मीनार पूरी तरह से नष्ट हो गयी, अकेले इस मीनार के मलबे से 200 से ज्यादा शव निकाले गये।

कुछ वर्षों के लिए इन्हें सिकलीगढ़ धरहरा तथा मनिहारी स्थित आश्रमों की व्यवस्था हेतु भेजा।

यहां का मुख्य बाजार घंटाघर, हाथी गेट, बाबूगंज, गांधी मार्केट, शाह पैलेस,दास मार्केट, मंगल बाजार, पीपल अड्डा, आगरा रोड़ चुंगी प्रमुख हैं।

कुछ बेहद महत्वपूर्ण ईमारतों में सम्मिलित हैं- देहरादून घंटाघर, वन अनुसंधान संस्थान, सीएनआई ब्यॉज इंटर कॉलेज, मॉरीसन मेमोरियल चर्च, इनामुल्लाह भवन, जामा मस्जिद, ओशो ध्यान केन्द्र, इंडियन मिलिटरी एकेडमी तथा दरबार साहेब यहाँ के दर्शनीय भवन हैं और वास्तुकला की दृष्टि से विशेष महत्व रखते हैं।

नगर के कार्यकलाप का केन्द्र घंटाघर है जहाँ ऊँचे स्तंभ पर ५ घड़ियाँ लगी हुई हैं।

एक घंटाघर तक जाती है जहाँ पर कलाकंद बाजार भी है।

इनमें से शहर के बीचो-बीच स्थापित घंटाघर का मंदिर और नज़दीक के गाँव देवसर का मंदिर बहुत प्रसिद्द हैं।

इंग्लैंड के वेस्टमिंस्टर के घंटाघर में सन् 1288 में तथा सेंट अल्बांस में सन् 1326 में घड़ियाँ लगाई गई थीं।
