१३. हेत्वाभास – ये पांच प्रकार के होते हैं : सव्यभिचार, विरुद्ध, प्रकरणसम, साध्यसम और कालातीत।

इसके बाईस भेद हैं- प्रतिज्ञाहानि, प्रतिज्ञांतर, प्रतिज्ञाविरोध, प्रतिज्ञासंन्यास, हेत्वंतर, अर्थांतर, निरर्थक, अविज्ञातार्थ, अपार्थक, अप्राप्तकाल, न्यून, अधिक, पुनरुक्त, अननुभाषण, अज्ञान, अप्रतिभा, विक्षेप, मतानुज्ञा, पर्यनुयोज्योपेक्षण, निरनुयोज्यानुयोग, अपसिद्धांत और हेत्वाभास।

'दुष्ट हेतु' को हेत्वाभास कहते हैं पर इसका प्रमाण गौतम ने प्रमाण के अंतर्गत न कर इसे अलग पदार्थ (विषय) मानकर किया है।

जैन न्याय की श्वेतांबर परंपरा में हेत्वाभास के तीन ही भेद माने गए हैं- विरुद्ध असिद्ध तथा व्यभिचारी; किंतु दिगंबर परंपरा में "अकिचिंत्कर" को जोड़कर उनकी संख्या चार कर दी गई है।

জজজ(6) नैयायिक असिद्ध, विरुद्ध, अनैकांतिक, प्रकरणसम तथा कालात्ययापदिष्ट - ये पाँच हेत्वाभास मानते हैं, किंतु वैशेषिक विरुद्ध, असिद्ध तथा संदिग्ध, ये ही तीन हेत्वाभास मानते हैं।
