घाट शब्द का उपयोग एक मुहावरे ‍ "मौत के घाट उतारना" (अर्थात् हत्या करना) में भी होता है, किन्तु यहाँ पर इसका उपयोग हिन्दुओं द्वारा शवदहन प्रायः किसी घाट पर किये जाने के कारण है।
