शहरी विकास होने के कारण दादरी के पास का एक गाँव 'चरखी' इससे जुड़ गया जिसके कारण शहर का नाम चरखी दादरी पड़ गया।

क्षेत्रफल की दृष्टि से यह हरियाणा का सबसे बड़ा जिला हुआ करता था, परन्तु चरखी दादरी भिवानी से अलग होकर एक नया जिला बन गया जिसके कारण अब सिरसा जिला सबसे बड़ा जिला बन गया है।
