कौटिल्य ने राज्य की विदेश नीति के सन्दर्भ में कूटनीति के चार सिद्धांतों साम (समझाना, बुझाना), दाम (धन देकर सन्तुष्ट करना), दण्ड (बलप्रयोग, युद्ध) तथा भेद (फूट डालना) का वर्णन किया।

वास्तव में 1909 के सुधारों का मुख्य उद्देश्य उदारवादियों को दिग्भ्रमित कर राष्ट्रवादी दल में फूट डालना तथा साम्प्रदायिक निर्वाचन प्रणाली को अपना कर राष्ट्रीय एकता को विनष्ट करना था।

राजनीतिक ध्रुवीकरण पूरा हो चुका था।

रामशरण शर्मा दर्शाते हैं कि "राजन्य (राज सहयोगी वर्ग)" व "विस (वंश का कृषक वर्ग)" के मध्य बढ़ते हुये ध्रुवीकरण के उपरान्त कैसे विभिन्न वंश प्रमुखों द्वारा एक सर्वमान्य मुखिया का चयन होता था जिसके फलस्वरूप एक तरफ शासक वर्ग (राजा, राजन्य, क्षत्र, क्षत्रिय) तथा दूसरी तरफ "विस" (उसी वंश के कृषक) जैसे पृथक वर्गों का विभेदीकरण उत्पन्न होता गया।

बोस क "डबल अपवर्तक क्रिस्टल द्वारा बिजली की किरणों के ध्रुवीकरण पर" पहला वैज्ञानिक लेख, लॉज लेख के एक साल के भीतर, मई 1895 में बंगाल की एशियाटिक सोसाइटी को भेजा गया था।

The phenomenon of interference produced by crystalline plates is considerably modified if the light be circularly or elliptically polarized or analysed by the interposition of a quarter-wave between the crystal and the polarizer or analyser.

The isochromatic lines, unless the dispersion be excessive, follow in the main the course of the curves of constant retardation, and the principal lines of like polarization are with a crossed polarizer and analyser dark brushes, that in certain cases are fringed with colour.

With a crossed polarizer and analyser the rings are interrupted by a dark hyperbolic brush that cuts the plane of the optic axes at right angles, if this plane be at 45° to the planes of polarization and analysation - the so-called diagonal position - and that becomes a rectangular cross with its arms parallel and perpendicular to the plane of the optic axes when this plane coincides with the plane of primitive or final polarization - the normal position.
