अधिकांश इस प्रकार की रचनाओं का उद्देश्य आलोचना करना, खिल्ली उड़ाना या छींटे कसना होता है किंतु इसमें असंयत और असंगत क्रियाओं या व्यवहारों के द्वारा मनोविनोद भी किया जा सकता है।

प्रायः सभी नवीन मनोविनोद की सामग्री ब्रिटिशों की देन है।

अर्थात् वह कला जिसके अभिव्यंजन में सुकुमारता और सौंदर्य की अपेक्षा हो और जिसकी सृष्टि मुख्यतः मनोविनोद के लिए हो।
