कुछ व्यायाम-विशेष मशीनों में एक अंडाकार कैम होता है (पहली बार नॉटिलस द्वारा शुरू किया गया), जो प्रतिरोध को इस प्रकार बदलता रहता है कि प्रतिरोध और आवश्यक मांसपेशिय बल, व्यायाम की पूरी श्रृंखला के दौरान समान बना रहता है।



नॉटिलस जैसी कुछ मशीनों में विशेष अनुरूपण शामिल है ताकि वे जोड़ों के कोण के बावजूद प्रतिरोध को स्थिर रख सके.।

२०वीं सदी का साहित्य स्थलीय घोंघा एक अमेरूदण्डीय प्राणी है जो नमी युक्त घास के मैदान तथा बगीचों में पाया जाता है।

इस प्रकार इस वर्ग का दो उपवर्गों डाइब्रैंकिआ तथा टेट्राब्रैंकिआ (tetrabranchia) में विभाजन नॉटिलस के गिल की रचना तथा आंतरांग लक्षणों के विशेषकों पर ही आधारित है।

वर्तमान समय में घोंघा और अलंग बंदरगाह पर जहाज़ तोड़ने का बहुत बड़ा उद्योग विकसित हुआ है।

मांस, दुग्धसामग्री एवं मछली और घोंघा पकड़ना अन्य उद्योग हैं।

इसमें नॉटिलस की तरह चार गिल तथा चार आलिंद (auricles) के स्थान पर दो गिल तथा दो आलिंद ही होते हैं।

आगर, छोटी नर्मदा तथा घोंघा इसकी सहायक नदियां हैं।

नॉटिलस में वृक्क चार तथा डाइब्रैंकिआ में दो होते हैं।

लिनक्स में नॉटिलस, कॉंक्वरर जैसे कई संचिका प्रबंधक हैं।

लेकिन वर्तमान नॉटिलस का कवच तृतीयक समय (Tertiary period) के आरंभ तक नहीं पाया गया था।

वहीं घोंघी एक खाद्य घोंघा है, जिसे धनिया, मिर्च, लहसुन और प्याज से बने सालन में पकाया जाता है।

इसी संघ में घोंघा, सीप, शंख इत्यादि जीव भी हैं।

(२) नॉटिलस में कीप सदृश रचना दो पेशीय वलनों (muscular folds) की बनी होती है।

साधारण घोंघा निरापद स्थान में जाकर, अपने कवच के मुँह को कैल्सियमी प्रच्छद से ढँक लेता है और अवसन्न हो पड़ा रहता है।

बाद में नॉटिलस की तरह कुंडलित कवच भी पाया गया।

ट्राइऐसिक (triassic) चट्टानों में वर्तमान नॉटिलस के कवच से मिलते-जुलते कवच पाए गए हैं।
