एक है प्राचीन अथवा विगत काल की घटनाएँ और दूसरा उन घटनाओं के विषय में धारणा इतिहास शब्द (इति + ह + आस ; अस् धातु, लिट् लकार अन्य पुरुष तथा एक वचन) का तात्पर्य है "यह निश्चय था"।

'संगीत' शब्द ‘सम्+ग्र’ धातु से बना है।

संस्कृत > सम् + सुट् + 'कृ करणे' + क्त, ('सम्पर्युपेभ्यः करोतौ भूषणे' इस सूत्र से 'भूषण' अर्थ में 'सुट्' या सकार का आगम/ 'भूते' इस सूत्र से भूतकाल(past) को द्योतित करने के लिए संज्ञा अर्थ में क्त-प्रत्यय /कृ-धातु 'करणे' या 'Doing' अर्थ में) अर्थात् विभूूूूषित, समलंकृत(well-decorated) या संस्कारयुक्त (well-cutured)।

सद् धातु के तीन अर्थ हैं : विवरण-नाश होना; गति-पाना या जानना तथा अवसादन-शिथिल होना।

कालांतर मे मुग़ल शासन के दौरान पूरे उपमहाद्वीप मे मौद्रिक प्रणाली को सुदृढ़ करने के लिए तीनों धातुओं के सिक्कों का मानकीकरण किया गया।

गत्यर्थक में पद् धातु से निष्पन ‘पद्य’ शब्द गति की प्रधानता सूचित करता है।

यह शब्द ‘उप’, ‘नि’ उपसर्ग तथा, ‘सद्’ धातु से निष्पन्न हुआ है।
