यह जिला सुखानंद महादेव, ऑक्‍टरलोनी इमारत, नीलकंठ महादेव, आंतरी माता मंदिर और भादवा माता मंदिर आदि के लिए विख्यात है।

मलिक मोहम्मद जायसी (१४७७-१५४२)।

इनके अलावा नहर झरोखा, बाज बहादुर महल, और नीलकंठ महल भी पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करते हैं।

इस कारण से भगवान शिव 'नीलकंठ' के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं।

आदिकालीन कवि विद्यापति से लेकर भक्तिकालीन सूरदास, रहीम, रसखान, पद्माकर, जायसी, मीराबाई, कबीर और रीतिकालीन बिहारी, केशव, घनानंद आदि अनेक कवियों को यह विषय प्रिय रहा है।

इस दिन संध्या के समय नीलकंठ पक्षी का दर्शन शुभ माना जाता है।

डॉ॰ वासुदेव शरण अग्रवाल ने भाषा-विज्ञान के सिद्धान्तों के आधार पर जायसीकृत ‘पद्मावत’ के बहुत से शब्दों को उनके मूल रूपों से जोड़ कर उनके अर्थों को स्पष्ट किया है।
