हिन्दी विकि डीवीडी परियोजना फॉण्ट (मुद्रलिपि) या टाइप फ़ेस अक्षरों के लिखने की अलग अलग शैलियाँ हैं जो छापे की लिखावट को विभिन्नता और सौंदर्य प्रदान करते हैं।

धार्मिक भाषाएँ रोमन लिपि लिखावट का वो तरीका है जिसमें अंग्रेज़ी सहित पश्चिमी और मध्य यूरोप की सारी भाषाएँ लिखी जाती हैं, जैसे जर्मन, फ़्रांसिसी, स्पैनिश, पुर्तगाली, इतालवी, डच, नॉर्वेजियन, स्वीडिश, रोमानियाई, इत्यादि।

वर्णमाला, अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय ध्वन्यात्मक लिपि या लेखन प्रणाली का अर्थ होता है किसी भी भाषा की लिखावट या लिखने का ढंग।

बृहत्कथा श्लोकसंग्रह को विद्वान् बृहत्कथा की नेपाली वाचना मानते हैं किंतु इसका केवल हस्तलेख ही नेपाल में मिला है, अन्य कोई नेपाली प्रभाव इसमें दिखाई नहीं पड़ता।

यही नहीं, अगली पंक्ति मे सभी अक्षरों के आइने वाले प्रतिबिम्ब लिखने होते थे ! लगभाग दूसरी सदी ईसापूर्व से यूनानियों ने लिखावट हमेशा बायें से दायें लिखना शुरु कर दिया।

जांचदल के अधिकांश लोगो ने इन चिठ्ठियों की सामग्री के अध्धयन और उनके मैरी की लिखावट से मिलान के बाद इन्हें सही माना।

"कूचिमारतंत्र" का हस्तलेख मद्रास से उपलब्ध हुआ है जिसे ग्रंथकार "उपनिषद्" का नाम देता है और जिस कारण उसमें प्रतिपादित अधिकरण "औपनिषदिक" नाम से प्रख्यात हुआ।

हिन्दी भाषा में यह 'पाण्डुलिपि', 'हस्तलेख', 'हस्तलिपि' इत्यादि नामों से प्रसिद्ध है ।

उन्हें इसका हस्तलेख मिला था इण्डिया हाउस के आफिस में।

इन्साइक्लोपीडिया ब्रिटैनिका के अनुसार १२२४ ईं में कंठस्थ की जानेवाली 'लातिन' शब्दसूची के हस्तलेख के लिये जान गारलैंडिया ने इस (डिक्शनरी) शब्द का सर्वप्रथम प्रयोग किया गया था।

1904 ई. में तंजोर के एक पंडित ने भट्टस्वामी के अपूर्ण भाष्य के साथ अर्थशास्त्र का हस्तलेख मैसूर राज्य पुस्तकालय के अध्यक्ष श्री आर. शाम शास्त्री को दिया।

लिखावट सुंदर हो इसलिये प्राचीन समय में तख्ती, क़लम और काली स्याही की दवात का प्रयोग अनिवार्यता था।

स्थापित होते ही सभा ने यह लक्ष्य किया कि प्राचीन विद्वानों के हस्तलेख नगरों और देहातों में लोगों के बेठनों में बँधे बँधे नष्ट हो रहे हैं।

इसके पश्चात् इस ग्रंथ के दो हस्तलेख म्यूनिख लाइब्रेरी में प्राप्त हुए और एक संभवत: कलकत्ता में।

*(1) दोनों संग्रहों की प्रतियाँ उनके संग्रहकारों के हस्तलेखों में नहीं हैं, इसलिए संग्रहकारों की कृतियों उनकी प्रतियों के पूर्व की होगीं।

परंतु इसके अंतर्गत प्राचीन हस्तलेखों और मुद्रित ग्रथो के आधार पर जब शब्दसंकलन होता है तब उभयविध आधारग्रंथों की प्रामाणिकता और पाठशुद्धि आवश्यक होती है।

पश्चिम और मध्य यूरोप की सारी भाषाओं ने लिखावट के लिये रोमन लिपि अपना ली।

हितोपदेश का नेपाली हस्तलेख १३७३ ई. का प्राप्त है।

अन्य यूरोपीय भाषाओं में लिखावट और उच्चारण में उतना भेद नहीं है और अगर है भी तो उसके अच्छे ख़ासे नियम कनून होते हैं।

अनुराधपुरा (या अनुराधापुरा) के पास पाए गए मृदभांडों पर ब्राह्मी तथा गैर-ब्राह्मी लिपि में लिखावट मिले हैं जो ईसापूर्व ६०० इस्वी के हैं।
