भ्रम में ज्ञान का विषय विद्यमान है परंतु वास्तविक रूप में दिखाता नहीं, मतिभ्रम में बाहर कुछ होता ही नही, हम कल्पना को प्रत्यक्ष ज्ञान समझ लेते हैं।

बुजुर्गों में, मतिभ्रम सबसे प्रमुख चिह्न हो सकता है।

वैसे तो ईश्वर रूपहीन है, पर माया की वजह से वो हमें कई देवताओं के रूप में प्रतीत हो सकता है।

कुछ लोगों को इस चरण के दौरान निद्राजनक मतिभ्रम भी हो सकता है, जो उनके लिए परेशानी का सबब बन सकता है।

मोह (भाईभतीजावाद) व  माया (मुद्रा) जैसे सामाजिक विश्वासों के आधार पर बनी  व्यवस्था व्यावसायिक परिषद  कहलाती है व इस व्यवस्था को ब्राहमा दर्शन के नाम से भी जाना जाता है इस में पूर्व लिखित कानून व्यस्था लागु होती है जिसे धर्म भी कहा गया है आज के समय ये रिलिजन व  संविधान के नाम से जाना जाता है ।

लेगियोनेला द्वारा हुए निमोनिया में पेड़ू दर्द, डायरियाया मतिभ्रम हो सकता है, जबकि स्ट्रेप्टोकॉकस निमोनिया द्वारा हुए निमोनिया में जंग जैसे रंग वाला बलगम, और क्लेबसिएला द्वारा हुए निमोनिया में “करेंट जेली” के नाम से जाने वाला खूनी बलगम हो सकता है।

तांत्रिक अभ्यास में एक व्यक्ति वास्तविकता को माया, भ्रम के रूप में अनुभव करता है और यह व्यक्ति को मुक्ति प्राप्त होता है।

उस समय राजसभा में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने माया से अपने परम दुर्धर्ष विश्वरूप का दर्शन कराकर सबको भयभीत कर दिया।

मतिभ्रम करने वाली औषधि का दुरुपयोग उपयोग की समाप्ति के बाद लंबे समय तक भ्रान्तिमूलक एवं अन्य मनोविकार संबंधी घटना को बढ़ावा दे सकता है और नशे के दौरान भांग भय आघातों को बढ़ावा दे सकता है एवं इसके उपयोग करने से मनस्ताप के समान ही अवस्था हो सकती है।

मिथ्या ज्ञान दो प्रकार का है -- भ्रम और मतिभ्रम।

इस स्थिति में हालाँकि ईश्वर एक नकारात्मक शक्ति के साथ है, लेकिन माया उसपर अपना कुप्रभाव नहीं डाल पाती है, जैसे एक जादूगर अपने ही जादू से अचंम्भित नहीं होता है।

हम में से हर एक कभी न कभी भ्रम या मतिभ्रम का शिकार होता है, कभी द्रष्टा और दृष्ट के दरमियान परदा पड़ जाता है।

इसके परिणामस्वरूप कुछ लक्षण देखने को मिल सकते हैं जिनमें चिंता, जीवन के लिए खतरनाक दौरे, प्रलाप ट्रेमेंस एवं मतिभ्रम, कंपकंपी और संभवतः दिल का धड़कना बंद हो जाना शामिल है।

डिमेन्शिया यानी मतिभ्रम मस्तिष्क संबंधी बिमारी है।

बाद में सूफी आन्दोलन ने भी भारतीय संगीत पर अपना प्रभाव जमाया।

जहाँ एक ओर कहा जाता है कि कॉफ़ी से शुक्राणुओं की सक्रियता बढ़ती है वहीं दूसरी ओर कुछ अध्ययनों में यह भी पता चला है कि अधिक कॉफ़ी पीने से मतिभ्रम भी हो सकता है।

इसमें असंबद्ध विचारों के साथ साधारण भ्रम और मतिभ्रम के मायाजाल मस्तिष्क की स्वाभाविक चेतना को धूमिल कर देते हैं।

ईश्वर अपनी इसी जादुई शक्ति "माया" से विश्व की सृष्टि करता है और उस पर शासन करता है।

उसका मतिभ्रम उसे वी समझने का अंतर्ज्ञान देता है और लंदन लौटकर वह तर्क के माध्यम से यह अनुमान करता है कि वी का एकांत वास का स्थान परित्यक्त विक्टोरिया स्टेशन है।

अर्थात जब माया के आइने में ब्रह्म की छाया पड़ती है, तो ब्रह्म का प्रतिबिम्ब हमें ईश्वर के रूप में दिखायी पड़ता है।

अद्वैत वेदान्त के अनुसार जब मानव ब्रह्म को अपने मन से जानने की कोशिश करता है, तब ब्रह्म ईश्वर हो जाता है, क्योंकि मानव माया नाम की एक जादुई शक्ति के वश में रहता है।
