कन्नौज के राजा हर्ष ने ६०६ से ६४७ तक गंगा के मैदानी क्षेत्र में शासन किया तथा उसने दक्षिण में अपने राज्य का विस्तार करने का प्रयास किया किन्तु दक्क्न के चालुक्यों ने उसे हरा दिया।

पंख, पीठ और अन्य जगहों में थोड़ा हरापन होता है जिसकी वजह से ऊँची घास में इसका दिखना लगभग असंभव हो जाता है।
