यह फ़िल्म इससे पूर्व के रोमांस भरे सार के प्रति कटाक्ष था जिसने अमिताभ बच्चन को एक नई भूमिका एंग्री यंगमैन में देखा जो बॉलीवुड के एक्शन हीरो बन गए थे, यही वह प्रतिष्‍ठा थी जिसे बाद में इन्हें अपनी फ़िल्मों में हासिल करते हुए उसका अनुसरण करना था।
