यह नैयायिकों का मत है, जिससे वाक्य की वाक्यार्थ में पृथक् शक्ति की प्रतीति होती है, किंतु कुमारिल भट्ट ने अभिहितान्वय का समर्थन किया है।

मानसोल्लास (पृ. 171589) के अनुसार सोमेश्वर के दरबार में कभी कभी तीसरे पहर कवि गोष्ठियाँ भी हुआ करती थीं जिनमें कवि, गायक, विद्वान् और नैयायिक राजसिंहासन के पास बैठकर भाग लिया करते थे।

न्यायकुतूहल और न्यायचंद्रिका के प्रणेता तथा इनसे भिन्न एक प्रसिद्ध वैयाकरण और एक नैयायिक पंडित भी इसी नाम के व्यक्ति हैं।

मीमांसा दर्शन नैयायिकों के समान विधि मुख से ईश्वर का समर्थन अैर निरीश्वर सांख्यवादियों के समान निषेध भी नहीं करता, किंतु "संबंधाक्षेपपरिहार" ग्रंथ में कुमारिल भट्ट ने शब्दार्थ के संबंध का कर्ता ईश्वर का निराकरण किया है।

नैयायिकों के शब्द या आगम को अनुमान में तथा उपमान को प्रत्यक्ष में वैशेषिकों ने अंतर्भूत किया है।
