इसके पूर्व चिकित्सा में संखिया, विस्मथ, पोटैशियम आयोडाइड तथा पारद का प्रयोग होता था।

बहिर्जात (exogenous) विषों से, जिनमें तंबाकू, एथिल ऐलकोहल, मेथाइल ऐलकोहल, सीसा, संखिया, थैलियम, क्विनीन, अर्गट (ergot) पुं-पर्णांग (filix mas), कार्बन डाइ-सल्फाइड, स्ट्रैमोनियम (strammonium) तथा भाँग प्रमुख हैं, दृष्टितंत्रिका के रेशे क्षतिग्रस्त हो जाते हैं।

कुछ विषों से भी, जैसे संखिया या पारद के लवण से, दस्त होने लगते हैं।

कैकोडिल आक्साइड के हाइड्रोक्लोरिक अम्ल के साथ आसवन पर कैकोडिल क्लोराइड (डाइ-मेथिल आर्सीन क्लोराइड) (C H3)2 As Cl की प्राप्ति होती है।

जल-चूना-गंधक-मिश्रण, सुर्ती का पानी तथा संखिया का पानी इन रोगों में लाभकारी होता है।

कुछ विष क्षारीय होते हैं, जैसे ऐल्कलॉयड और कुछ उदासीन होते हैं, जैसे सीस, पारद के लवण, संखिया आदि।

अनेक प्रकार के विष जैसे चूहे, बिच्छू, संखिया, आदि का विष चढ गया हो तो चौलाई का रस या जड़ के क्वाथ में काली मिर्च डालकर पीने से विष दूर हो जाता है।

इसकी चिकित्सा में पारद का सर्वप्रथम प्रयोग भारतवर्ष में हुआ, तदनंतर संखिया का प्रयोग सफल पाया गया।

(2) रासायनिक विषों एवं भौतिक कारकों की क्रिया - इसके अंतर्गत भौतिक और रासायनिक कारणों से ऊतक की मृत्यु होती है, जैसे बाह्य आघात, अत्यधिक ऊष्मा वा शीत, दाहक विष (जैसे फ़ॉस्फ़ोरस, संखिया, सीसा तथा रेडियम)।

गंधक, पारा, संखिया, जस्ता, टिन, बेराइटा, सोना, चाँदी, लोहा, चूना, ताँबा, फूलों तथा टेल्यूरियम इत्यादि तत्वों तथा अन्य बहुत से पदार्थों से औषधियाँ बनाई गई हैं।

कैकोडिल मूलक [(C H3)2 As] भी काफी स्थायी है।

पोटैशियम ऐसीटेट और आर्सेनिक ट्राइ-आक्साइड के आसवन से एक सधूप द्रव, कैकोडिल आक्साइड (CH3)2 As O2 क्वथनांक 150 डिग्री सें.) प्राप्त होता है।

आर्सेनिक आक्साइड आथवा संखिया का सूत्र As4O6 है।

ऐसी दशा में इसकी जड़ें साफ करके दूसरे मौसम में बोने के लिये रख ली जाती है इसके पौधों पर कीड़े भी लगते हैं, जो संखिया के छिड़काव से मारे जाते हैं।

Analytical problems, such as the isolation of certain organic radicals, attracted his attention to begin with, but he soon turned to synthetical studies, and he was only about twenty-five years of age when an investigation, doubtless suggested by the work of his master, Bunsen, on cacodyl, yielded the interesting discovery of the organo-metallic compounds.

It is detected by heating with ordinary alcohol and sulphuric acid, which gives rise to acetic ester or ethyl acetate, recognized by its" fragrant odour; or by heating with arsenious oxide, which forms the pungent and poisonous cacodyl oxide.
