सभी खंडों में उपांग होते हैं पर विशेषता यह है कि इसके चलने के पैर द्विशाखी (बाइरैमस) होते हैं।

चाहे कठिनी के अवयव किसी भी कार्य के लिए उपयोजित हों और उनके आकार में चाहे कितनी विभिन्नता क्यों न हो, इनकी बनावट मुख्यत: द्विशाखी (Biramus) होती है।

इसके प्रथम जोड़ी द्विशाखी (biramu) होते हैं और ये सब नॉप्लिअस को प्लवन में सहायता देते हैं।

बालरोगों के शारीरिक चिकित्सकों द्वारा बच्चों के साथ विकासात्मक देरी, मस्तिष्क पक्षाघात तथा जन्मजात मेरूदंडीय द्विशाखी (स्पाइना बाइफिडा) आदि का इलाज किया जा सकता है।

ऐसे साधारण द्विशाखी अवयव कोपीपॉड (Copepod) के प्लवन पद, मैलाकॉस्ट्राका के उदर अंग इत्यादि हैं और ऐसे ही अंग पूर्वज डिंभ (लार्वा) में भी, जिसे नॉप्लिअस (Nauplius) कहते हैं, पाए जाते हैं।
