विवेचनात्मक, जिसमें विज्ञान, सौंदर्यशास्र, आलोचना, दर्शन, धर्म और नीतिशास्र, विधि, राजनीति इत्यादि आते हैं, एवं भावात्मक, जिसमें ऊपर के अनेक विषयों के अतिरिक्त आत्मपरक निबंध और नाटक आते हैं।
