शोकगीत हिंदी उपयोग और उदाहरण

1717 में उनकी 'एलोइसा टू अबेलाई' तथा 'ऐनएलेजी टु दि मेमरी ऑव एकन अनफार्च्यूनेट लेडी' (एक दुर्दैवपीड़ित अबला का शोकगीत) ये दोनों भावपूर्ण कविताएँ प्रसिद्ध हुईं।

इसकी तुलना रामविलास शर्मा ने विलियम शेक्सपीयर के किंग लियर से करते हुए लिखा है कि हिंदी में ही नहीं अंग्रेजी में भी ऐसे शोकगीत दुर्लभ है।

निराला ने यह शोकगीत 1935 में अपनी 18 वर्षीया पुत्री सरोज के निधन के उपरांत लिखा था।
