इस प्रकार, वर्तमान ज्ञानमीमांसा व्यक्तियों की समष्टि में प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को एक विशिष्ट स्थान देती है।

पारम्परिक समाजों में तो धर्म सामाजिक नियंत्रण का औजार होता है जबकि आधुनिक समाजों में उसका यह प्रकार्य ग़ैर-ज़रूरी हो जाता है क्योंकि आधुनिक समाजों में वह ज्ञान-मीमांसा का प्रकार्य निभाने लगता है।

ऋषि पतंजलि द्वारा व्याख्यायित योग संप्रदाय सांख्य मनोविज्ञान और तत्वमीमांसा को स्वीकार करता है, लेकिन सांख्य घराने की तुलना में अधिक आस्तिक है, यह प्रमाण है क्योंकि सांख्य वास्तविकता के पच्चीस तत्वों में ईश्वरीय सत्ता भी जोड़ी गई है।

प्रथम आर्य सत्य की मीमांसा करते हुए बौद्धों ने त्रिविधदु:खता का प्रतिपादन किया है - दु:ख दु:खता जो संवेदनात्मक स्थूल दु:ख है, परिणाम दु:खता जो कि सुख के अन्यथाभाव से व्यक्त होती है, एवं संस्कारदु:खता जो संस्कारों की संचलनात्मकता है।

एकपदिप -- इस काण्ड में अग्न्याधान, पुनराधान, अग्निहोत्र, उपस्थान, प्रवत्स्यदुपस्थान, आगतोपस्थान, पिण्डपितृयज्ञ, आग्रयण, दाक्षायण तथा चातुर्मास्यादि यार्गो की मीमांसा की गई है।

इसलिये भारतीय दर्शन में चेतना की मीमांसा अनिवार्य है जो आधुनिक दर्शन में नहीं।

पूर्वमीमांसा 12 अध्यायों में तथा संकर्षणकांड 4 अध्यायों में जैंमिनि के नाम से तथा उत्तरमीमांसा (वेदांतसूत्र) 4 अध्यायों में बादरायण के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुई।
