इसके संकेत तो अनेक पौराणिक कथाओं एवं विवरणों में मिलता है, परन्तु महाभारत के अनेक सन्दर्भों से यह भलीभाँति स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि यह एक पद का नाम है।
