अत: भिखारी दास भी औरों के समान वस्तुत: कवि के रूप में ही हमारे सामने आते हैं।

वृद्ध अवस्था में गौदी मितव्ययिता से खाया करते, पुराने और फटे हुए सूट पहनते और इस हद तक अपने स्वरूप की उपेक्षा करने लगे थे कि कई बार उन्हें दूसरे लोग भिखारी तक समझ बैठते थे, जैसा इनकी दुर्घटना के दौरान भी हुआ और शायद इनका रूप ही इनकी मृत्यु का कारण बना।

'सूत्रधार' में लोकसाहित्यकार भिखारी ठाकुर का जीवन बहुआयामिता में चित्रित हुआ है, तो 2011 में प्रकाशित उपन्यास 'रह गईं दिशाएँ इसी पार' फिक्शन के माध्यम से रचना की नयी जमीन तोड़ता है।
